McGraw-Hill Connect is available to all courses in Canvas and does not require you to add the external tool at the course level. These instructions will guide you through the process of pairing your Canvas and MH Connection course, and since this is a 3rd party integration the steps may change at any time. If you are stuck please contact CIRT at email@example.com or 620-3927, or visit McGraw-Hill’s website http://www.mheducation.com/highered/platforms/connect/training-support-educators.html. For hands on assistance it is recommended that you contact your MH rep for they are trained on all of their product offerings.
Important: After course copying a Canvas course that was paired with a Connect course you will have to pair the new Canvas course and Connect sections. Course copying does not automatically do this and therefore it is not advised to pair your SANDBOX course with Connect courses.
Pairing Connect and Canvas
These instructions begin with McGraw-Hill Connect already available in your course. For information on how to enable MH Connect in your course please read How to enable McGraw-Hill Connect.
Click the McGraw-Hill Connect Deep Integration link. Depending on how you setup the link your course this maybe from your course navigation menu or from a module link, there is no difference either way.
If this is your first time using McGraw-Hill in your course you will receive the above window and you must click the blue Authorize button to continue.
Click the Pair with a Connect Section link. If you have never used MH Connect in any of your Canvas courses prior to now you will be prompted to login to McGraw-Hill’s website. If you do not have a MH login you will need to set it up. If you need assistance with the MH login, you will need to contact your McGraw-Hill representative or their support.
The next step in pairing your course is to decide on using an existing MH section or create a new one. If you have taught this course before and you simply want to reuse the prior material, click the 2 option. If you have adopted a new book and you have not already set it up in McGraw-Hill Connect, click option 1. For this example we will assume the MH section already exists (most common scenario) and we will continue with option 2.
A list of all of your McGraw-Hill Connect courses will be displayed. Locate the appropriate course and click it.
You are now given the option to use the existing section (1) or you can select (2) and it will create a copy of the section. The second option is desirable if you know you want to make changes to the MH course without altering the original. For this example we will continue with option 1. Click the gold Save button.
You have now successfully paired your McGraw Hill Connect course with your Canvas course! On the confirmation page you can click the go section home page link to access the MH course content and if you caught a mistake you can unpair the courses immediately from this window. Click the Return to University of North Florida link to return to your Canvas course.
Now that your courses are paired as an instructor you have more options when clicking on the McGraw-Hill Connect Deep Integration link.
Now from within your Canvas course you can synchronize the Connect grades to Canvas, unpair the courses, or directly access your Connect section. Students will not have these options and can only access the Connect section.
