Canvas Loading Issues for Some Chrome Users

Some Chrome browser users are currently experiencing issues when loading certain aspects of Canvas – including Gradebook, the Canvas Inbox, and/or Canvas Quizzes. This issue appears isolated to the Google Chrome browser. Canvas engineers are working on a solution. In the meantime, we recommend that instructors use Microsoft Edge, Safari, or Firefox if they experience loading issues when accessing these tools. Students experiencing this issue should be directed to the ITS Helpdesk. Visit the Canvas Community for more information concerning supported Canvas browsers and known behaviors. Big Blue Button Removal

Effective August 13, Conferences (Big Blue Button) will no longer be available for use within Canvas. Zoom will continue to be available both within Canvas and via the web portal at unf.zoom.us. Instructors and students may refer to CIRT’s Zoom webpage for additional resources on using Zoom. Canvas Community currently unavailable [RESOLVED]

The Canvas Community site is currently requesting a password when users attempt to access it. Instructure is aware of the issue and are working on resolving it. You can still view help articles on the Canvas Guides site.

Canvas and Upcoming Chrome Release

The newest version of Chrome is changing how it handles cookies (you can read about these changes on the Chromium Blog.

Because these changes could cause issues with some of the integrations we currently have in Canvas, CIRT has gone through and tested all of the current Canvas wide integrations. We believe the majority of them should have no issue, and in cases where we did find an issue we have reached out to those who may be effected.

Updates in the 5-11-2019 Production Release

In this Canvas release (May 11), Arc has been renamed to Canvas Studio. This naming convention does not change any of the features of the tool itself. Additionally, starting August 3rd Internet Explorer 11 will no longer be supported as a Canvas browser.

Other updates are also available in various APIs and documentation.

Production release notes also include fixed bugs.

1/13/2017 – Canvas Support Phone Interruption (resolved)

@4:30AM 1/14/2018 Canvas Support reported they experienced problems with their phone system that prevented them from receiving support calls for 3 hours. Canvas’s original statement:

“Hi Admins —

Phone Support was unavailable or intermittent from 9:14 PM until 12:15 AM MST this morning affecting both incoming and outgoing calls. We immediately initiated contact with our service provider to begin investigating. Both Chat and Online submission Support options we’re available during this time, but we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you and your users. We appreciate your patience as this issue was worked through.

8/23/2016 – Canvas Enrollments

CIRT has received reports of problems with student enrollments not updating in Canvas courses. ITS is aware of the issue and working on a resolution. We will post updates as we receive them.
