How to Create a Narrated Presentation with Keynote

This article describes the process for creating a narrated presentation in Keynote with the intent to save the presentation as a movie to add to a Canvas course. Before starting this process, please read the following:

  • To record audio, you will need a microphone attached to your computer. UNF faculty can checkout microphones from CIRT.
  • To record video, you will need a webcam attached to your computer. UNF faculty can checkout a webcam from CIRT.

The first step in the process is to build all the slides for the presentations, or you may use an existing presentation if you have one available.

Once your slides are built, click on the Play in the menu bar at the top of the screen. This will open the Play menu, click Record Slideshow.


The record slideshow screen will open. Click record at the bottom of the screen to begin recording.


A countdown will begin on screen. After the countdown you will begin narrating your slides.


Click the record button at the bottom of the screen when you are finished narrating in order to stop the recording.

Play the presentation to check the quality and content of the recording.

Click File to open the File menu, then click Export As to open the Export menu. Select Quicktime from the Export menu.


Click Next to select the default settings.


Title your file and choose a destination for the movie, then click Export. Exporting the movie may take several minutes.


Play the video file to make sure the presentation exported correctly.
